CARE FOR ORPHAN AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Global AIDS and poverty has resulted in unprecedented numbers of children lacking basic shelter, emotional support and access to quality education and medical services. Kerus is particularly concerned for street children (including child prostitutes and those involved with drugs), children in orphanages and shelters, child-headed households, orphans, isolated village children, and neglected children living in informal settlements. By the year 2010, it is expected that there will be 20 million orphans in the world as a result of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Out of desperation, many of the children in need turn to prostitution or other crimes simply to survive. Grandmothers and other extended family members do what they can but all too often the financial burden is overwhelming.
By networking with international and national agencies, public schools and the local church, Kerus Global Education is reaching out to assist the local church, public schools and orphan care agencies in caring for children in need.

Kerus Orphan Care Center
Kerus has just launched an Orphan Care Center in the township of Soshanguve, located just outside of Pretoria South Africa. The one hundred children attending the Orphan Care Center were identified by teachers at the Saint Frances School, located directly across the street from Celebration Church, the local church we are supporting to build and run the Orphan Care Center. In a unique partnership between the church, the public school, community leaders and our South African Partner, Acts2change, we are offering these children a chance to eat regular meals, receive medical care, and provide education and training that will help them chart a positive course for their lives. Non-traditional Educational Programs
In partnership with the Association of Christian Schools International and Trans World Radio, Kerus is working to teach orphan and vulnerable children basic reading and math skills and using the It Takes Courage! Youth Curriculum, basic life skills and character development. Educational resource centers are set up in local orphan care centers and private schools where volunteers are used to work with the children. Many children are able to "catch up" and return to school, while others continue to receive remedial assistance as needed. LEARN MORE ….
